I rarely read through an entire book, but this one captured me early on. The use of first person is spot on. For that matter, this is one of the rare books that I would say needed to be written in first person. It is, in fact, a window into the author's mind, sharing the harshness of a disease and the spirit it takes to live with it. I admire Nellie K. Neves for being so so candid.

Its characters, both Lindy and Ryder, are well-fleshed out, and Ryder is a dream! I'm not sure what book the bitchy one-star reviewer read, but perhaps Granny forgot to eat her oatmeal. In any case, my only negative of the story didn't involve the characters, and it's more of a reader warning. This story does have a dark element that took me by surprise. I read all genres with an open mind. I loved this book, don't get me wrong, but the plot stopped me for a while. That said, I can't see how to approach it any other way.

Grammar and sentencing are good. Perhaps a few too many uses of "as" but that is my particular pet peeve. The romance is slow and torturous, carrying over into Book 2, there is a major cliffhanger, but that kiss ... oh man. The kiss makes the story. 5-stars. If you like suspense and aren't the pansy type, you will enjoy this book. Recommend.
